Attorney General Jeff Landry Arrests Two New Orleans Men on Over 650 Counts of Child Pornography

BATON ROUGE, LA – Today, Attorney General Jeff Landry announced the arrests of two New Orleans men on child pornography charges.

“Today’s arrests should tug at the heart strings of humanity. Child exploitation is real and appalling,” said Attorney General Jeff Landry. “My office is committed to taking those who prey on our innocent youth off the streets.”

Melvin Newman, 58, was arrested on 500 counts of Possession of Pornography Involving Juveniles (under the age of 13) and five counts of Distribution of Pornography Involving Juveniles (under the age of 13). Newman was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Prison as a result of a joint investigation between Attorney General Jeff Landry’s Cyber Crime Unit, New Orleans Police Department Child Abuse Unit, Louisiana State Police Special Victims Unit, and Homeland Security Investigations.

Lawrence Jones, 23, was arrested on 150 counts of Possession of Pornography Involving Juveniles (under the age of 13). Jones was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Prison as a result of a joint investigation between Attorney General Jeff Landry’s Cyber Crime Unit, New Orleans Police Department Child Abuse Unit, Louisiana State Police Special Victims Unit, and Homeland Security Investigations.
