Attorney General Jeff Landry Issues Statement on Hodge Ruling

BATON ROUGE, LA - Earlier today, the Louisiana Supreme Court reaffirmed its power and duty to serve as the final authority on declarations of unconstitutionality in our state. In State of Louisiana v. Hodge, the Court declared non-unanimous jury verdicts constitutional. Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry issued the following statement upon release of the Court’s opinion:

“We are pleased that the Louisiana Supreme Court re-affirmed its constitutionally-delegated authority over this important legal matter. Going forward, this ruling will help ensure that pending criminal litigation in Louisiana continues through the courts efficiently - allowing all prosecutors, as well as our office, to continue working to ensure justice for crime victims and their families.”
