Memorial Day Message from Attorney General Jeff Landry

BATON ROUGE, LA - Memorial Day is a state and federal holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, to honor the men and women who died while serving in the United States military. This year, Memorial Day will occur on Monday, May 31. In recognition of Memorial Day, Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry issued the following statement:

“I encourage all citizens of Louisiana to join me in taking a moment to reflect on the purpose of this holiday: honoring men and women who valiantly served with the utmost selflessness for our Nation. These American heroes defended our Nation with bravery and patriotism that must never be forgotten. While Memorial Day is an opportunity of reflection for all, it is also a day of sorrow for many families in Louisiana – including the loved ones of our more than 230 veterans killed since September 11, 2001. As someone who proudly wore the uniform alongside our Nation’s finest, I cannot express enough sympathy and gratitude for the families of our fallen soldiers. As I continue to pray for those feeling heartache during this holiday, I vow to never stop doing everything in my power as Attorney General to assist and protect our service members, veterans, and their families.”
