BATON ROUGE, LA – Monsters, goblins, and super-heroes will soon be descending on homes across Louisiana; and while Halloween is a fun-filled season of tricks and treats, Attorney General Jeff Landry reminds families that it can also bring safety risks.

“It pays for parents to put extra time into planning for Halloween activities,” said Attorney General Jeff Landry. “Please review safety tips and re-iterate them to your children.”

To help make Halloween festivities a trick-free treat, Attorney General Jeff Landry offers the following safety tips:

• Buy costumes and wigs labeled “flame resistant.”
• Be cautious with face paint – much of it is not FDA-approved and could trigger allergic reactions.
• Fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags to help drivers see you.
• Never walk near lit candles or luminaries while wearing costumes.
• Avoid trick-or-treating alone; walk in groups or with a trusted adult.
• Hold a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help you see and be seen by others.
• Walk safely by crossing the street at corners and using traffic signals and crosswalks.
• Only visit well-lit houses. Don't stop at dark houses.
• Never accept rides from strangers.

Attorney General Jeff Landry also urges motorists to eliminate any distractions and keep their eyes on the road for any trick-or-treaters.
