Attorney General Jeff Landry Releases Numbers on Ramped Up New Orleans Crime Fighting Initiative

General Landry details arrests made during the final quarter of 2016

BATON ROUGE, LA – Attorney General Jeff Landry today is announcing the arrests that his office’s Violent Crime Task Force made over the last quarter of 2016. General Landry’s team made 11 arrests and worked in conjunction with the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) on 5 additional arrests.

“Our task force is working tirelessly to ensure those who break the law and commit crimes will be brought to justice,” said General Landry. “This is not about politics; my effort is about protecting Louisiana lives and our economy tied to tourism in New Orleans. While my office works to stop crime all over Louisiana, the spike in crime within our State’s largest city is alarming. That is why I announced this initiative and why we are taking action.”

From October through December, the Attorney General’s Violent Crimes Task Force made arrests focused on drugs and stolen vehicles. The task force also assisted the NOPD on three armed robbery arrests and two armed carjacking arrests.

The carjacking arrests were the culmination of a car chase involving General Landry's agents who apprehended the suspects and handed them over to the NOPD.

“My agents stand ready to apprehend, arrest, and charge those who intend harm on the Crescent City and all of our State,” added General Landry. “New Orleans is full of history, culture, and beautiful architecture that people from all over the world travel to experience. Unfortunately, crime has put a damper on the safety of the city and its economic potential. That must end, and I am committed to doing all I legally can to assist in this effort.”

General Landry concluded, “It is critical for the media to focus on the crimes impacting our citizens and visitors. The families who lost loved ones to this epidemic deserve that respect. Frustrated by political games, I will continue working with my dedicated team to protect lives and our economy.”
