The Office of the Louisiana Attorney General strives to protect the people and resources of the State of Louisiana by providing a variety of services including superior legal representation to the state, professional and effective law enforcement, and public education programs.

Protecting Youth
Our office has a variety of educational programs targeted at keeping Louisiana’s children safe. We strive to keep our children safe online, at school, and educate our youth on the dangers of underage drinking.

Protecting Seniors
Many forms of fraud and abuse are targeted at our elderly population. Our Consumer Protection Section works to educate the public about common forms of fraud targeted at the elderly, such as sweepstakes and telemarketing scams. Our Medicaid Fraud Control Unit works to ensure our elderly Medicaid recipients do not fall victim to fraud or abuse, and vigorously prosecutes those who violate the law.

Consumer Safety
Our Consumer Protection Section keeps the public abreast of a variety of scams that affect the consumers of our state. Our consumer mediators take complaints and work to mediate issues involving the purchase of products and services such as automobiles, home repairs, and landlord-tenant issues.

Crime and Safety
Our office has legal and law enforcement programs designed to educate and train the public, law enforcement, and private agencies on issues such as domestic violence and internet crimes against children. Our High Technology Crime and Fugitive Apprehension Units work with local law enforcement to get dangerous criminals off the streets. Our Insurance Fraud and Public Corruption Units strive to make certain Louisiana is a fair and safe place to live, work and do business.

Health Issues
Our Medicaid Fraud Control Unit investigates allegations of abuse and neglect of the elderly and disabled residents of health care facilities. Public Protection’s Tobacco section monitors tobacco product manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers to ensure they are in compliance with the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement.
