Attorney General Murrill urges caution before sharing back-to-school pictures
The 2024-2025 school year has officially begun for most Louisiana students. While parents love to take pictures of their children before their first day, remember not to share too much personal information on the typical ‘back to school signs,’ as predators can use this information to commit identity theft or earn your child’s trust.
- Leave off information about your child’s school, teacher, age, or grade level
- Make sure the background of your photo doesn’t include your house number or street sign
- Double check your privacy settings
- Never accept any friend requests from strangers
“Our most precious gifts are our children, and we all want to do everything we can to keep them safe. As a mom, I’d urge Louisiana parents to take a few simple steps to make sure their child’s personal information never gets into the wrong hands when taking those back-to-school pictures. I hope everyone has a safe and successful school year,” said Attorney General Liz Murrill.
