New Year’s Eve Safety Tips from Attorney General Liz Murrill

“If you’re drinking alcohol, please do so responsibly. That means not getting behind a wheel and driving under the influence. It’s just not worth it. Use a rideshare app or call a taxi. Happy New Year everyone, and cheers to 2025,” said Attorney General Liz Murrill.

Attorney General Murrill has the following tips to celebrate safely and avoid any potential dangerous situations: 

Do not drink and driveBe sure you and your loved ones drive sober. Have a designated driver and don’t abandon a friend if going out with a group. If you have consumed alcohol, leave your car parked and use a taxi or ridesharing app to get home. You can report any drunk drivers on the road to local law enforcement.

Use fireworks with cautionFollow your local laws regarding fireworks. Watch fireworks from a distance and keep children away from area where fireworks are being lit. Never point or throw fireworks towards people, animals, vehicles, houses, or flammable materials.

Drink ResponsiblyEat before drinking and hydrate with water. Do not drink anything you did not see poured or opened, and never leave your drink unattended. Do not mix alcohol with medications. 

Educate Your TeenagersKnow where your teens are going and who they will be with. Ensure their phones are fully charged before leaving. Be sure to remind them that the legal drinking age is 21 years old.
